ESPN Analyst calls Alabama linebacker the ‘best returning linebacker in college football’

Alabama football’s returning linebacker received high praise from ESPN college football analyst Dusty Dvoracek on Wednesday.

Lawson is a redshirt junior for the Crimson Tide, and he is returning to the Crimson Tide after starting in 11 games last season. Dvoracek was asked about which Tide defenders he thinks will stand out next season during an appearance on “The Next Round,” and Lawson was the first player he named.

“Agent 0 I guarantee will be,” Dvoracek said. “Deontae Lawson, what a place to start there…I think he’s the best returning linebacker in College Football and during the Arkansas game this year, being at practice, I was just blown away. In a room full of alphas, he was the alpha of alphas. Coach Saban knows what he is looking for and he is going after a certain type of player and to me, Deontae Lawson just stood out out. Not just with his play. Whenever he spoke, everybody listened.”

The Mobile, Alabama native finished last season with 67 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. He is expected to be leader of the Tide’s defense this upcoming season.
