College football player prop: Sooner to the rescue

Oklahoma needed to survive a game-tying attempt at a two-point conversion, but it pulled out a 31-29 victory over UCF to remain unbeaten. Now the 7-0 and sixth-ranked Sooners play in enemy territory for the first time in a month as they take on Kansas in Lawrence. These border rivals have been battling on the gridiron for more than a century, and in this latest clash, a difference maker on the visitors gets our support for the prop to pop:

The bet: Over 59½ receiving yards for Oklahoma wide receiver Nic Anderson (DraftKings)

A redshirt freshman, Anderson was limited to three games last year by recurring soft-tissue injuries. But he has been seizing his opportunities this season, and more of them are coming his way after the team lost leading receiver Andrel Anthony to a knee injury.

In last week’s nail-biting win, Anderson saw 10 targets from Dillon Gabriel and caught five of them for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Getting into the end zone has become a specialty for the 6-foot-4 speedster, as he has scored on exactly half of his 16 receptions. He’s also averaging more than 24 yards per catch.

The Jayhawks have a middling pass defense statistically, allowing 235 yards per game. But in their two losses, both opposing quarterbacks threw for well over 300 yards, and four different wideouts — Texas’ Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy and Oklahoma State’s Rashod Owens and Brennan Presley — comfortably cleared this number.

Continuing his ascension, Anderson should add his name to the list.
