BYU Offers Highly Productive Transfer Quarterback Kurtis Rourke
USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday, BYU extended a scholarship offer to one of the most experienced quarterbacks in college football. The Cougars offered Ohio transfer Kurtis Rourke, a sixth-year senior who has thrown for over 7,600 yards in his college career. Rourke has on year of eligibility remaining and he has received competing offers from Vanderbilt and Wake Forest since entering the transfer portal. He's also received interest from Indiana and Cal.

Rourke has been one of the best players in the MAC over the last few seasons. In 2022, he was named the MAC Player of the Year after he threw for 3,257 yards, 25 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, and he also had 245 rushing yards to go along with 4 rushing touchdowns that season. You can check out a few of his highlights below.

Rourke battled some injuries in 2023 and his production dropped off. This last season, he threw for 2,207 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.

Rourke would be a great solution for the Cougars at quarterback. His mobility and arm talent is a perfect fit for Aaron Roderick's offense. The only downside is his eligibility. Ideally, BYU could bring in a quarterback with multiple years of eligibility remaining that the offense could build around. To compete for a Big 12 championship, BYU will have to develop a team and grow together - similar to the basketball program right now under Mark Pope.

The quarterback position is a top priority for BYU in the transfer portal. Rourke is one of many transfer quarterbacks that BYU is recruiting in this transfer cycle.
