Alabama vs. Georgia: The names to know

Arguably the greatest college football coach ever, Saban's team is playing in its third consecutive College Football Playoff final. Saban has won four national championships at Alabama and one at LSU.

Smart is in only his second year as head coach at Georgia after serving as an assistant at Alabama from 2007-15. He served as the team's defensive coordinator in eight of those nine seasons before returning to his alma mater.

Daboll is in his first season as the Alabama offensive coordinator, replacing Lane Kiffin. He was a longtime NFL assistant, spending time as offensive coordinator of the Browns, Dolphins and Chiefs before returning to New England as an assistant over the last four seasons.

Chaney is in his second season as offensive coordinator at Georgia. He previously served in the same role at Cal State Fullerton, Purdue, Tennessee, Arkansas and Pittsburgh.

Pruitt is in his second year as defensive coordinator at Alabama, and he previously held the same title at Florida State and Georgia. He was hired recently as head coach of Tennessee, so the National Championship Game will be his final game with the Crimson Tide.

A very experienced defensive assistant, Tucker has serve as defensive coordinator at Ohio State, the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears during his coaching career. He's been Georgia's defensive coordinator since Kirby Smart was hired last year.

Hurts is playing in his second College Football Playoff final in two years. The quarterback passed less often in the Alabama offense this season but did a better job of protecting the ball with 17 touchdowns and just one intereption this season.

A true freshman quarterback, Fromm replaced the injured Jacob Eason early in the season and never relinquished the starting job for Georgia. He had an impressive season, completing nearly 64 percent of his passes for 2,383 yards and 23/5 TD/INT.

Alabama's leading rusher, Harris stands just shy of 1,000 rushing yards for the season. He's averaged 7.6 yards per carry and has 11 touchdown runs.

Entering his final game at Georgia, Chubb has 4,744 rushing yards during his four-year college career. He's rushed for 1,320 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.

Scarbrough caught fire late in his sophomore season for Alabama but has played second fiddle to Damien Harris at running back this season. The power runner has 120 carries for 573 yards and eight rushing touchdowns.

Michel has had a spectacular senior season for the Bulldogs, rushing 142 times for 1,129 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging eight yards per carry. He had the game-winning touchdown in the Rose Bowl vs. Oklahoma.

A potential first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Ridley has 59 receptions for 935 yards and four touchdowns. His most productive season came two years ago in his freshman campaign, when he had 89 receptions for 1,045 yards and seven scores.

Georgia has worked in a steady dose of Swift at running back this season despite being behind two proven seniors on the depth chart. He has 77 carries for 603 yards and three scores, adding 15 receptions 146 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Smith Jr. has made a sporadic contribution in his sophomore season at tight end for the Crimson Tide, with only 14 receptions for 128 yards and three scores. 

Georgia's top wideout this season, Wims has 44 receptions for 704 yards and seven touchdowns in his senior year. He's scored in five of his last six games, including six receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown in the Rose Bowl.

The speedy Ruggs has only nine receptions this season, but five of them have gone for touchdowns. He's also been a key contributor in the return game, with 13 kick returns and eight punt returns in his freshman season.

Godwin has been productive in his junior season with 34 receptions for 591 yards and six scores. He had five receptions for 51 yards in the Rose Bowl.

Diggs is a defensive back for the Crimson Tide, but his primary role is as a punt returner. He has 13 returns this season, including three in the Rose Bowl.

The versatile Hardman has 23 receptions for 338 yards and three receiving scores, plus one rushing score. He's also been Georgia's primary return man, with 21 punt returns and 17 kick returns this season.

A sophomore offensive tackle for the Crimson Tide, Williams is a strong NFL prospect. He could be a first- or second-day NFL pick in 2019.

Woerner has only nine receptions for 100 yards this season, but the Georgia tight end had three receptions in the Rose Bowl.

Promoted to Alabama's starting kicker in his senior season, Pappanastos is 16-for-21 on field goals and a perfect 54-for-54 on extra points this year.

Blankenship is having a great year as Georgia's kicker, going 17-for-20 on field goals and 61-for-61 on extra points. He's been 31-for-38 on field goals over the last two seasons.

Scott is in his fourth year as Alabama's punter. He's averaged 42.4 yards per punt this season.

Nizialek is in his first year as Georgia's punter, averaging 44.9 yards per punt. He's a graduate transfer who was formerly a punter at Columbia University.

Payne made headlines for his play in the Sugar Bowl, with one interception and a touchdown reception. The junior defensive tackle had 47 tackles and one sack this season.

Atkins mans nose tackle for the Bulldogs and finished the year with 36 tackles. He had four tackles in the Rose Bowl.

A star pass rusher for Bama, Davis has 64 tackles and 7.5 sacks this season. He had five tackles and one sack in the Sugar Bowl.

Ledbetter had a strong year in his junior season for Georgia with 35 tackles and two sacks. One of his sacks came in the Rose Bowl.

Hand enters his final college game with 36 tackles and three sacks on the Alabama defensive line this season. He had one sack in the Sugar Bowl.

Georgia's star defensive performer at linebacker, Smith had a team-leading 124 tackles along with 5.5 sacks in his junior season. He made several key plays during the Rose Bowl and led the Bulldogs with 11 tackles. He was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year following the season.

One of Alabama's most potent pass rushers at linebacker, Evans has 66 tackles and six sacks this season. He enters his final college game with 15 sacks for his career.

Walker has had a breakout junior season for the Bulldogs with 5.5 sacks and 36 tackles. The junior linebacker had one sack during the Rose Bowl.

Jennings is out for the National Championship Game after spraining his knee, but he helped the Tide get there. The Alabama linebacker finished 41 tackles and one sack this season.

Bellamy has 31 tackles and 3.5 sacks at linebacker for the Bulldogs in his senior season. He made two tackles during the Rose Bowl.

Wilson has been all over the field for Alabama at linebacker with 28 tackles and four interceptions, including a pick-six during the Sugar Bowl. The sophomore also made six tackles during the bowl game.

A fifth-year senior linebacker for the Bulldogs, Carter has 31 tackles this season. He made four tackles, including one tackle for loss, during the Rose Bowl.

Averett is having a strong senior season at cornerback for the Crimson Tide with 42 tackles and one interception.

Approaching his final college game for Georgia, Carter has 58 tackles and 4.5 sacks at linebacker this season. He has 14 sacks for his career.

Wallace was a key contributor in the Sugar Bowl with six tackles, and the safety also had a solid senior season with 45 total tackles, two sacks and three interceptions for Alabama.

Parrish missed time early this season with a broken foot, but the senior corner has returned healthy. He has 22 tackles and one interception this season.

A top NFL prospect and one of the key leaders of the Alabama defense, Fitzpatrick had another excellent year with 55 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one interception. The defensive back could be a top five pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Baker has had a solid year in the Georgia secondary with 41 tackles and two interceptions. He had two tackles in the Rose Bowl.

A pivotal playmaker at safety for Alabama, Harrison has 70 tackles, 2.5 sacks and three interceptions in his junior season.

Sanders is entering his final college game after a solid and consistent four-year career playing safety at Georgia. He has 37 tackles and four interceptions this season, giving him 16 picks for his career.

The versatile Jones had a strong senior season for the Crimson Tide with 53 tackles and two interceptions. He's questionable for the College Football Playoff National Championship Game after missing the semifinal with a knee injury.

Reed emerged as a strong contributor in his sophomore season for Georgia with 76 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries at safety. He had seven tackles in the Rose Bowl.

A former walk-on for the Bulldogs, Davis has contributed in all four seasons of his career at Georgia. The defensive back has 41 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one interception this season.
