Alabama still making big push for five-star USC QB commit

Julian Lewis, a five-star quarterback from Carrollton, Georgia, has been committed to USC since August 2023.

That's a pretty long-standing commitment in today's recruiting environment, but Lewis' apparently strong commitment to the Trojans hasn't stopped several other big-time programs from trying to flip him before all is said and done.

In fact, On3 is reporting that Alabama, Auburn, Colorado and Georgia are all still in the running for Lewis' commitment, but it seems like the Crimson Tide may be starting to get a leg up.

First of all, Lewis has made multiple trips to Tuscaloosa, and that includes a visit last week to meet new head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff. Things have certainly changed at Alabama with the retirement of Nick Saban, but Tim Watts of On3 is reporting that Lewis is still very comfortable with the Crimson Tide.

Now all DeBoer and his staff (mainly new offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan) are trying to do is show Lewis why he's a fit with the Tide rather than the Trojans.

“All the feedback has been good,” Watts reported after Lewis' visit to Alabama. “To be clear, this is a guy that’s pretty comfortable at the University of Alabama. He’s visited off and on over the years, so there’s not a lot to learn as far as the city, the campus and all that kind of stuff. What he’s coming to see is DeBoer’s offense. (Offensive coordinator) Nick Sheridan, the play-calling.

… That’s the one thing that was the most interesting to him — and he got a lot of that. He got a lot of discussion with DeBoer, Sheridan. And, he got to see the proof is in the pudding, exactly what they’re going to be doing."

If DeBoer can get Lewis to flip, he'd likely go down as crown jewel of Alabama's 2025 class. Per the 247Sports Composite, Lewis is the No. 2 quarterback prospect in his class and the No. 9 overall recruit.
