Alabama likely to hire from within for vacant OC role

Kalen DeBoer has dealt with a ton of change at Alabama and he hasn't even gone through his first game as head coach, yet.

DeBoer saw an exodus of players and recruits who left Tuscaloosa after Nick Saban's retirement. He was one heck of a replacement, but even DeBoer wasn't enough to keep several big names in tow. He then lost his offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, to the NFL.

That's a ton of change and Alabama is desperate for stability. DeBoer's next reported move would keep some stability for the Tide, though. According to BamaOnline, Alabama will likely hire its next offensive coordinator from within.

The name?

Tight ends coach Nick Sheridan, who followed DeBoer from Washington after coaching tight ends for the Huskies last season

Frankly, Sheridan would be a strong promotion for Alabama. He was the offensive coordinator at Indiana in 2020-21, so he does have previous play-calling experience. He also was a college quarterback at Michigan, playing for the Wolverines from 2006-10.

Sheridan walked on at Michigan in 2006 and earned a scholarship in 2008. He even started four games, so if anyone knows the grind of working his way up as a college player, it's him. He should be extremely relatable in Alabama's locker room.

All-in-all, this would be a strong hire.
