Star Duke Blue Devils Player Makes Big Decision Regarding 2024-25 Season
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Duke Blue Devils had a solid albeit disappointing run in the 2024 March Madness tournament. Their embarrassing loss to NC State has Kyle Filipowski thinking about how his team is set up. They have plenty of work to do if they want to make a deeper run in next year’s tournament.

Thankfully, he will have one of his more promising players returning for the 2024-25 campaign as Tyrese Proctor declared that he will be staying for one more season with the Blue Devils.

Tyrese Proctor to continue his Duke Blue Devils journey after a good 2023-24 season

Proctor didn’t come out of the gates swinging for the Blue Devils, but he’s steadily improved over the two seasons he’s played under Filipowski.

While his performances in his sophomore season still leave plenty to be desired, he’s clearly enjoying his basketball in Durham he’s returning for a third season as one of the team’s core players.

Per The Spun’s Hunter Hodies, his return bodes well for Filipowski’s 2024-25 roster:

That’s big news since Duke could lose Kyle Filipowski, Jared McCain, and Jeremy Roach to the 2024 NBA Draft. Duke advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament before losing to North Carolina State.

Originally from Australia, Proctor was part of the 2022 recruiting class and was the fourth-best point guard in the class, per 247Sports composite rankings. He was also the No. 27 overall recruit, regardless of position.

In addition to running it back with Duke, he’ll get to serve as a mentor to the incoming class of freshmen.

Having a player who clearly understands how Filipowski runs his offense has an immense impact on how the Duke Blue Devils integrate their incoming freshmen to the roster. While his 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 42%/35%/75% shooting splits aren’t enough to grab the attention of NBA scouts, his improvement is encouraging enough to warrant big expectations out of him in the 2024-25 season.

If Tyrese Proctor shows remarkable improvement for next year, it wouldn’t be strange to see him become one of the top selections in next year’s draft class.
