While there were whisperings about Michigan being out of the race, former Tennessee forward Olivier Nkamhoua ultimately chose the Wolverines over Baylor and West Virginia. Nkamhoua is one of the final big transfers to commit after going through the NBA Draft process, but eventually, the Helsinki, Finland native decided playing college basketball for one more season was best for him. In his four years in Knoxville, Nkamhoua saw his scoring increase every season.

There were definitely a lot of parts of Nkamhoua's game that didn't get used to the fullest potential at Tennessee. Of course, he wasn't the primary option offensively as Tennessee played through Santiago Vescovi and Josiah-Jordan James mainly. Regardless, Nkamhoua posted over 10 points and 5 rebounds per game this year while only playing 62.8% of the possible minutes.

I imagine Howard will use Nkamhoua in a much different way than Rick Barnes did as Michigan's offense has the tendency to let guys use their athleticism more than Tennessee. Maybe even more importantly, Nkamhoua has the defensive instincts and versatility that Michigan has been missing since Franz Wagner turned pro.

After all, Nkamhoua was nationally ranked last season in block rate and posted a 1.27 Defensive Bayesian Performance Rate. The Finland native was also super dependable as he played in and started every single game for Tennessee this past season.

Nkamhoua will be in a crowded frontcourt which probably keeps his minutes around the same for next season. The Wolverines have already picked up Tray Jackson from Seton Hall and Nimari Burnett from Alabama. This is in addition to returning Terrance Williams and Tarris Reed. Regardless, Michigan fans should be excited about the upside that Nkamhoua brings to Ann Arbor.
