Michigan basketball has had quite a few sons of former NBA players on the roster in the last two decades and another could be on the way.

The newest 2024 recruit to watch for Michigan basketball is Justin Pippen, the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen. Dusty May has been making a push here and according to Davis Moseley of 247 Sports, the Wolverines will host Pippen for an official visit this weekend.

Pippen is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard. He’s also one of the fastest last risers in the 2024 cycle. According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Pippen is ranked 138th overall, as a three-star prospect. However, 247 Sports’ own rankings have him No. 62 overall.

Texas A&M, Stanford, and Georgia Tech offered in February. The Yellow Jackets even picked up a crystal ball in March, but Moseley reports that Michigan baskeball is the “team to watch.” The visit will likely determine if Pippen commits to the Wolverines and right now, they certainly have some momentum.

Michigan targeting transfer with ties to assistant coach

The Wolverines just hired former Saint Mary’s assistant Justin Joyner this week and now, they are targeting Joshua Jefferson, a former starting small forward for the Gaels.

Jefferson is ranked 78th overall according to the On3 transfer rankings. Jefferson shot 27 percent from 3-point range last season but averaged 10.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

The 6-foot-8 forward excelled at finishing around the rim. He also called himself a “point forward” which makes him an ideal fit for May’s system. May essentially wants to play 3-4 guards and having a point forward type who can attack and score at the rim is ideal.

Jefferson might be a perfect piece to bring off the bench. Virginia, Iowa State, and VCU are hosting him for a visit but with his ties to the Michigan coaching staff, the Wolverines can’t be counted out.
