Michigan State's Tyson Walker named Top 5 finalist for Jerry West Award
USA TODAY Sports

One of the top shooting guards in all of college basketball resides in East Lansing.

On Tuesday, Michigan State men's basketball graduate senior Tyson Walker was named one of five finalists for the Jerry West Award, given annually to the nation's top shooting guard as determined by Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

While he's struggle to score efficiently as of late, Walker is having his best season of his three-year career with the Spartans. The fifth-year senior is averaging 18 points, 2.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game for MSU, while shooting 44.7% from the floor, 37.2% from the 3-point line and 72.9% from the free throw line.

As Michigan State prepares for 'Senior Night' on Wednesday against Northwestern, Walker will look to turn around his recent struggles in his final game at the Breslin Center. Over the past five games, the senior is shooting just 35.7% overall and 30.4% from deep. In the Spartans' first matchup with the Wildcats, Walker scored 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 from the 3-point line. He added three rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot.

Joining Walker as finalists for the Jerry West Award are Arizona's Caleb Love, Kansas' Kevin McCullar Jr., Kentucky's Antonio Reeves and North Carolina's R.J. Davis. The stat lines for each of those players can be viewed below:

  • Caleb Love, Arizona — 19.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals, 43.5 FG%, 36.2 3P%, 86.7 FT%
