Creighton dominates UConn for first-ever win vs. No. 1 team

The No. 15 ranked Creighton Bluejays had a historic win for their program on Tuesday night, dominating No. 1 UConn for their first-ever win against a top-ranked team.

Creighton fans stormed the court following the 85-66 win that not only snapped the Huskies' 14-game winning streak but also gave the Bluejays the biggest regular season win in program history.

It wasn't just the fact Creighton won. This was a thorough domination of the top team in the country and a huge statement win that could propel the Bluejays back into the top 10.

The Bluejays climbed as high as No. 8 this season in early December before a four-game stretch with three losses dropped them out of the top-25 entirely.

They have been steadily climbing back up the rankings since then and are now 11-3 in their past 14 games.

Creighton guard Steven Ashworth led the way with 20 points, including a 5-for-13 night from three-point range.

As a team, Creighton shot 50% from beyond the arc, while UConn was just 3-for-18. That was a big difference in the game.

UConn entered the game coming off a huge win over No. 4 ranked Marquette and had not lost a game in exactly two calendar months. Before Tuesday the Huskies' most recent loss was a 75-60 decision back on Dec. 20 at Seton Hall.

UConn's loss on Tuesday comes just a couple of days after previously No. 2 ranked Purdue was knocked off by Ohio State.

All of that could lead to the Houston Cougars reaching the No. 1 spot for the first time this season.
