Bob Huggins Denies That He Threatened Legal Action Against WVU

Here in a couple of weeks, the search for the next WVU men's head basketball coach will be in full swing. Although a good chunk of the fanbase would like to see the return of Hall of Famer Bob Huggins, it seems unlikely. 

Athletic Director Wren Baker has to get this hire right and I'm not sure he'd have the support within the administration to re-hire Huggins, even if he wanted to. According to Hoppy Kercheval of MetroNews, there's "zero chance" of Huggins returning.

"One name that will NOT be on WVU’s radar is Bob Huggins. The Hall of Fame coach and West Virginia sports legend was forced to resign last year after first dropping an anti-gay slur on a Cincinnati radio show and, just weeks later, getting arrested in Pittsburgh for drunk driving.

"Huggins made matters worse by claiming he never really resigned and then threatening to sue the University. Those events and his obstinacy burned up much of the well-earned goodwill he had built up at the University over the years."

These comments by Kercheval did not sit well with Huggins, nor should they. He has taken accountability for his mistakes on numerous occasions and reiterated on his podcast, Full Court Press, that he has never threatened legal action against the University.

"I wish that people could read because that's not what it said. It's not even close to what it said. We've talked about this numerous times... it didn't happen. I never ever said anything like that. Never ever meant anything like that. And for people to continue to bring up a falsehood, uh, they wouldn't done to them. What if I went on the air and said something about a talkshow guy that wasn't remotely true? Lose his mind. I've tried to keep everything inside of me and not really tell some of the people what I think of some of the comments and some of the things that they've said that absolutely, unequivocally were not true.

"The first show, I had the papers and let y'all read 'em. I mean, I got nothing to hide because that's not remotely anything that I said and in fact, if I remember correctly I think I told my attorney we're not doing that. We're not suing anybody, particularly not my university."
