There's a new all-time scoring leader in Evanston. Senior guard Boo Buie etched his name in the record books Thursday night, becoming the top scorer in Northwestern's history. Buie accomplished the feat during the Wildcats' 76-62 victory over Michigan.

Buie broke the record — set by John Shurna (2008-12) — on a long 3-pointer at the 10-minute mark in the first half. Heading into Thursday's game, he needed just four points to pass Shurna's mark, set at 2,038.

Buie ended the game with 16 points and seven assists.

Buie now has 2,050 career points at Northwestern with four games remaining in the regular season.

"That's a lot of points, a lot of shots, a lot of buckets. I mean, it's just special to be able to break the record. But, there's still a bunch of games left and I'm gonna keep trying to stack on to it," Buie said. "2,050 is a lot of points and something I think I should be proud of myself and something not a lot of people can do that.

Buie has averaged more than 10 points per game in each of his five seasons with the Wildcats. This year, he's scoring 18.9 points per contest, a career high for the guard.

"Just special for Boo. I mean, obviously as a coach, you're so locked in trying to win the game," coach Chris Collins said, wearing a headband in his postgame presser in support of Buie. "For Boo to break the record here tonight — his family was here. I as glad he was able to get it done in the first (10) minutes so then he could settle into the game. ... Special night. Feel really lucky to be a small part of his journey. That's why I'm wearing this headband.

"His impact on this program ... forget about the records, he's made this place — he's given us a cool factor."

Heide another weapon for Purdue?

Just when you thought you knew about everyone who could make a major impact for Purdue, another player jumps into the picture. On Thursday night, it was redshirt freshman Camden Heide who gave the Boilermakers great production.

Heide — who is averaging 11.7 minutes per game this season — had a career night in a 96-68 victory over Rutgers. The freshman scored 18 points and made all seven field goal attempts in the game, including three from 3-point range.

The freshman also showed off his incredible athleticism.

"He's been solid on both ends. And it's been hard because it's a numbers game, that's all it is. It's not like we don't believe in him, because we do," coach Matt Painter said. "Tonight, he was able to show his skill, show his athleticism. He also didn't do anything that he couldn't do. He stayed within himself. ... He's kept a great attitude. You kinda see his upside."

Although he doesn't get a ton of minutes, Heide gives Purdue another option for skill and athleticism off the bench. It just proves how deep Painter's team is this season.

Hawkins has career night for Minnesota

Elijah Hawkins isn't just a passer. In Minnesota's win over Ohio State on Thursday evening, the junior guard proved he can be an effective scorer, as well.

Hawkins posted a career-high 24 points to go along with seven assists, leading the Golden Gophers to an important 88-79 victory over Ohio State. It keeps Minnesota's hopes of a potential NCAA Tournament berth alive.

"I thought he got into a rhythm and just took good shots and was aggressive," coach Ben Johnson said. "I thought he took what the defense gave him. A couple times he got into the gap, his finishes were better at the rim — he's been working his butt off on finishes. I thought he took a step there today. His catch-and-shoot threes, he's been working on that, too.

"He's a guy that we know can distribute the ball, but I think people forget he's a pretty good scorer."

Hawkins wasn't bashful, making four-of-five shots from 3-point range and getting to the free throw line 11 times, knocking down eight attempts.

Hawkins is among the elite passers in college basketball, averaging 7.6 per game and leading the country. But now that he's proven he can put the ball in the bucket at a high rate? He might be one of the more dangerous players in the Big Ten in the final few weeks of the season.
