Teddy Atlas Flips The Narrative On Jake Paul For Taking On 57-Year-Old Mike Tyson: 'I Think He Might Be Making A Mistake...'
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Famed boxing coach Teddy Atlas recently gave his take on the upcoming clash between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.

In a Netflix first, the controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer will collide with the heavyweight great live on the platform.

The announcement has been met with considerable controversy, largely due to Mike Tyson's age. "Iron Mike" has not fought professionally since losing to Kevin McBride all the way back in 2005. Since then, he has only very sporadically gotten involved in exhibition bouts, competing in 2006 and 2020.

Considering the wear-and-tear Tyson has accumulated over the years, many are questioning if this is a safe endeavor for him to pursue.

'This Is A Very Dangerous Fight For Paul' - Atlas Assesses Paul vs. Tyson Matchup

During a recent edition of THE FIGHT With Teddy Atlas, the renowned boxing trainer and analyst revealed he sees the fight differently.

Rather than as a danger to Tyson, Atlas believes it's Jake Paul who's really taking a big risk here. He pointed out that Paul likely won't come out looking too good regardless of whether he wins or loses.

"I think this is a very dangerous fight for Paul," Atlas opined. "I think early on, early on, I think he might be making a mistake because, first of all, for me, he don't got a lot other than money, and he's made plenty of money. There's not a lot to winning on his side because if he wins, they say he's 58 years old, you know. And if he loses, they say he's 58 years old, you lost to a 58-year-old guy."

Atlas went on to suggest Tyson actually has far less to lose in this bout. He also commended "Iron Mike" and his team for their success in turning Tyson's life around over the years.

"For me, he's got a lot more to lose than Tyson," Atlas said. "A lot more, I mean, Tyson, whatever they're paying him, he's been making good money, you know. He's come back, like I said, in his life. He's done a good job having the people around him, I guess his wife is part of that obviously, where they've done a good job to get him on the track they've gotten him on."
