British welterweight Conor Benn has said he is very interested in a fight with Ryan Garcia after the American’s impressive win over Devin Haney last Saturday.

Garcia upset the odds to defeat WBC super-lightweight champion Haney via majority decision in Brooklyn, sending his long-time rival to the canvas three times.

It was the best performance of Garcia’s career, although the fact he weighed in 3.2lbs over the limit meant he was unable to take Haney’s belt.

Garcia said in the post-fight press conference that his “body can’t go below 143, it’s literally impossible” and that he’s moving up to welterweight. That has led to speculation over who the Californian could fight at 147lbs, with Benn one name mentioned.

Garcia Keen To Fight Benn In London

The two have already been trading insults over social media. It began when Benn congratulated Garcia on his victory, writing on X: “Great performance from Garcia I called it. Credit to @Realdevinhaney for getting up off the floor 3 times. I will fight any of these guys.”

Garcia duly responded with: “Let’s run it in London at the 02. I will fracture you SPLEIN [sic] and then eat it. Shoutout London.”

That prompted Benn to write back while referring to his previous trash talk with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis: “Don’t be another loud mouth like Gervumpalumpa if you are really about it let’s do it next and I will smash your teeth down you neck you w****r.”

The final message in the exchange came from Garcia when he wrote: “You know I’m about the business but you can’t even fight in your own country wtf.”

‘Ryan Hasn’t Been On My Radar’

Now Benn, who is ranked No 3 by the WBC and WBA, has spoken to Boxing Scene about his desire to fight Garcia having admitted that ‘King Ry’ was not someone he was previously thinking about.

“Ryan hasn’t been on my radar,” Benn said. “If he wants it, he can come here. I ain’t no Luke Campbell either, so it’s a fight I’d definitely take next. I’d take it straightaway.”

The one major stumbling block for a Garcia-Benn fight in the UK is Benn’s long-running dispute with the British Boxing Board of Control (BBofC) and UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) over his two failed drug tests.

The ‘Destroyer’ has pleaded his innocence from the beginning and has resumed his career after being cleared by the NADP (National Anti-Doping Panel). However, the BBofC and UKAD have appealed the decision, leaving Benn without a license to fight in the UK.

Benn Ready To ‘Get It On’ In Vegas

The British fighter has fought twice since returning, defeating Rodolfo Orozco in September last year and Peter Dobson in February, both on points, but he is on the lookout for much bigger names to continue his pursuit of a world title.

With Garcia, and potentially Haney, now looking to step up to welterweight, Benn said he’s ready for anyone.

“These fights weren’t on the landscape for me, but since they’re all moving up to 147, Haney mentioned my name, Gervonta Davis mentioned my name, [Adrien] Broner mentioned my name, another American has mentioned my name, and when it comes to putting pen to paper, they don’t want it.

“Can either do it in Vegas or here. The Board don’t want me over here at the moment so let’s get it on over there.”
