Let’s just Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, who formerly used to work with Floyd Mayweather, doesn’t get along too well with his former client. In a report from USA Today’s Reid Cherner, the controversy from both camps surrounding the recent slew of failed negotiations for a Super Fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao has the boxing world confused, and a bit pissed off. Both sides have deflected blame back and forth, but Arum took the next step, comparing Mayweather’s public persona to that of Joseph Goebbels, who was Adolf Hitler’s propoganda specialist:
“For two years Pacquiao has said that he will take any drug test whoever administers it so why is that still being talked about by Mayweather? You see Mayweather is from the school of propaganda that Joseph Goebbels, who was Hitler‘s publicist, adopted. The more you say things over and over again the more people believe them.”
Talk about turning the tide a little bit, coincidentally before Mayweather heads off to the slammer June 1st to serve a 90-day prison sentence. Maybe this is what Mayweather needs, a little bit of coaxing and smack-talking. Hopefully this new campaign by Arum to call out Floyd will force him to put his excuses to the side, man-up, and take control of the situation to make the fight happen. There’s literally nobody left for either Pacquiao or Mayweather to fight after Mayweather won a unanimous decision against Miguel Cotto last Saturday.
