The Seattle Storm head into Minnesota for game one of their opening round series with the Minnesota Lynx, the team with the best record in the WNBA and the defending Western Conference Champions. With the city of Seattle and it's fans fully engulfed in everything happening with their beloved Seahawks, the Storm have flown, for the most part, under the radar. That's exactly what they hope has happened in Minnesota as well. They hope that the Lynx will take a win over the Storm for granted as they head into their matchup on Friday. An interesting fact about the Storm, as they head into their record-breaking tenth playoff appearance in a row: Seattle has never lost a series in the second round, or the finals. Translation, if the Storm have not been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, they have won the championship. If all holds true then, and somehow the Storm can pull off the seemingly impossible by upsetting the Lynx in the first round, history says that they will win it all. That being said, the Storm have lost all four meetings with the Lynx this year by an average of nearly 17 points. Last year, the Storm went down in defeat to the Lynx in three games in the first round, sporting their two marquee players in Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson; two players who are not available this season due to injuries.Still, the Storm and their fans have hope. The leader of the team in the absence of their two stars has been Tina Thompson, who will retire after this season, regardless of the outcome in the playoffs. Tina was the first woman ever drafted to the WNBA in its first season of operation, and it would be fitting if the "first lady" of the WNBA were to go out a champion again. The Storm hope they can make it happen; the Storm fans hope they can make it happen; and Tina Thompson still believes that her team can't be counted out just yet. Perhaps the will of one of the greatest players in the league's history can be enough to carry them to victory. Thompson hopes so and so do the Seattle fans. By: Keith Ishiitwitter: @keithishii
