The athletes who nailed their Halloween costumes in 2016

Halloween is here. If you still need any last-minute ideas, some professional athletes and their friends are here to help you. And for future reference, the National Hockey League is the (unofficial) official Halloween league of America.

Here are the athletes who've nailed Halloween in 2016.

Auston Matthews and Peter Holland, Ken Bone and Donald Trump
Toronto Maple Leafs

Four goals in his NHL debut earlier this month for the Toronto Maple Leafs? Forget that. Remember 19-year-old hockey phenomenon Auston Matthews for his Ken Bone Halloween Costume in 2016. His new Leafs teammate Peter Holland assisted perfectly as Donald Trump. We're off to a fantastic start.

Jaromir Jagr, Pharaoh
Florida Panthers

It appears that hockey players are singlehandedly owning Halloween this year. Yes, Jagr is still in the NHL. He is 44 years old and doesn't care. You're only as old as you look, or act, on Halloween. Obviously, Jaromir Jagr is immortal.

Pittsburgh Penguins and Friends, Mario Kart

So, have I mentioned hockey players are killing it? This one might be my favorite, a true collaborative triumph. This photo, posted by Penguins left winger Conor Sheary's apparent fiancée features Sheary as Mario, Penguins left winger Scott Wilson as Bowser and Penguins right winger Bryan Rust as Yoshi. It is unclear who the winner was when the characters actually raced.

Jonathan Toews and Lindsey Vecchione, Mr. and Mrs. Dead Serious
Chicago Blackhawks

Masterclass in makeup. Did the Toews hire Kat Von D to paint their costumes?

Richard Sherman, Harry Potter
Seattle Seahawks

Like a boss.

Martellus Bennett, Clown
New England Patriots

It appears that New England tight end Martellus Bennett had something of a Halloween party at his Imagination Agency on Saturday night. It's also entirely possible that Marty B is the only one who decided to dress up as a Picasso-esque clown and the gathering had nothing to do with Halloween, but either way, he's in the Halloween spirit.

Tyler Motte and teammates, Channel 4 News Team
Chicago Blackhawks

Artemi Panarin, Mob Boss (?)
Chicago Blackhawks

Mobster with a squirt gun? This one is open for interpretation.

Christian Yelich, American
Miami Marlins

Appreciate the patriotism, but waiting to see what Christian Yelich's other costume looks like. He captioned this, "Already have a costume but this much America was too hard to pass up."

Cody Miller and Ali DeWitt, Kylo Ren and Rey
Olympic swimmer

U.S. Swimmer and Olympic bronze medalist Cody Miller and his fiancée Ali are known to dress up as a couple. They are self-proclaimed nerds. This Halloween, it was Star Wars. For their engagement photos, it was Harry Potter.

Ryan Lochte, Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter
Olympic Swimmer

When has anything Ryan Lochte done needed extra commentary in order to be entertaining? Never.

Simone Manuel, America's Next Top Model
Olympic Swimmer

Simone captioned her Instagram post, "Decided to be a better version of myself for Halloween." Simone, we all think you're pretty great as you are.

Eric Decker and Jessie James Decker
New York Jets

Here is Eric Decker and his wife's, country singer Jessie James Decker, adorable daughter Vivianne dressed as Tinkerbell. Jessie dropped a hint as to what she's going to be for Halloween and also directed us all to her and Eric dressed up as "Twilight" characters for their first Halloween as a couple. Oh, and here is the couple's son Eric Jr. as Peter Pan. Stay tuned.

Antonio Brown, Batman
Pittsburgh Steelers

In a sort of Instagram promotion for Halloween, Antonio Brown revealed that his favorite costume of all time is when he dressed as Batman. He says in the video, "I dressed up, saved the day. Only thing missing was my black car." Brown's caption asks his followers to comment with their best costumes ever, but the more intriguing question to me: Is twerking part of Batman's superpower repertoire, or has Antonio Brown one-upped Batman?

Brandon Weems, O.J. Simpson
Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James posted a photo of his longtime confidant and Cleveland Cavaliers scout Brandon Weems dressed as O.J. Simpson for Halloween. Bold choice. Note that Weems' gloves used for this costume are not meant to portray, um, the gloves O.J. wore to play football.

LeBron James, Jerome
Cleveland Cavaliers

Speaking of King James, you didn't think 'Bron was going to throw a Halloween party and not indulge himself, did you? On Sunday night, LeBron James was Jerome James. Jerome is a legendary Martin Lawrence skit character.

Channing Frye
Cleveland Cavaliers

Just passing this along.

Kyrie Irving, Red Ranger
Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James's house was the place to be on Sunday night. Cleveland continues to deliver, in true 2016 fashion.

Julian Edelman
New England Patriots

Not a costume, but very impressive carving skills from Julian Edelman.

P.K. Subban, Prince
Nashville Predators

He is one of the NHL's most booming personalities, so this should come as no surprise that Halloween is P.K. Subban's favorite holiday.

Jermichael Finley, Charlie Strong
Retired tight end

Jermichael Finley is best known for his time as a tight end for the Green Bay Packers.  Before that, he was a Texas Longhorn. Ouch.

Tristan Thompson and Khloe Kardashian, Black Panther and Storm
Cleveland Cavaliers

Even the Kardashians had a presence at the Cavaliers' annual Halloween party, with her Khloe and her boyfriend and Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson. A Khloe Snapchat was captioned "Storm and my boo black panther."

Justin Turner, Cole Beasley
Los Angeles Dodgers

Turner is using Halloween to ask Dallas Cowboys newfound star quarterback Dak Prescott to pass him the ball. He dressed up as Cowboys wide receiver Cole Beasley.

Addison Russell, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Chicago Cubs

Although this picture was posted on Halloween, it seems Addison, his wife and friends celebrated on a night prior. Addison and Melisa went as Ninja Turtles, and Addison wants to make sure you know he is not just any of the Turtles. He is Leo. Cubs fun-loving manager Joe Maddon said before the team traveled to Cleveland on Monday for Game 6 of the World Series, "We have to celebrate Halloween on the airplane" and posted a sign in the clubhouse asking (telling) his players to dress up.

The Cubs Twitter account witty response to this story? "Should we go as the Cavs?"

Mic drop. Even if the Cleveland Indians win Game 6 and secure a World Series championship, the Cubs will have won Halloween. At least that's how it appears for now. It's still early.
