The City of Los Angeles will try [for a third time] to host a Summer Olympic Games, as the city announced on Thursday that they'll indeed bid for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games."I am pleased to confirm our enthusiastic interest in bidding to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games," read a letter from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to USOC [United States Olympic Committee] chief Scott Blackmun. "Our City Council passed a resolution of support for a 2024 bid... We proud of our city's sports heritage and tradition, and we stand ready to work with you to bring the Olympics Games back to the United States."The city had previously hosted the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984.The letter which was sent to the USOC was endorsed by a hand full of Hollywood celebrities and sports athletes including Magic Johnson, Tom Hanks, Barry Sanders and more.Other cities [Chicago, Boston, Detroit] were considered for the bid but announced that they didn't have any desire to bid for the 2024 Olympics.Los Angeles will go up against Paris, Rome, Dubai, Durban, and South Africa for the rights to host the Olympics in 2024. The IOC [International Olympic Committee] will vote on which city will earn the right to host the games in 2017.
