The Buffalo Sabres hired Ron Rolston as head coach after he served the interim position following the firing of Lindy Ruff in February. Rolston and general manager Darcy Regier will hold a news conference Tuesday at First Niagara Center to introduce Rolston, the team said. Eklund: Rumor. Lindy Ruff seeking a GM/Coach Position

Not common these days to have one guy holding both spots, but I would think if anyone could pull such a position off it would be Lindy. This does definitely limit the possible destinations for Ruff however..there is also speculation out that Ryan Miller would perhaps be headed to wherever Ruff were to end up....sure going to be an interesting few weeks after the regular season....

Lindy Ruff to coach Canada in world championship

Former Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff will be behind Canada's bench for the world hockey championship next month in Stockholm and Helsinki. Ruff was fired by the Sabres on Feb. 20, ending a 16-year run as the team's coach. He coached Canada to a silver medal in the 2009 world championship and was an associate coach under Mike Babcock on Canada's 2010 gold-medal Olympic...

Ruff In Tampa Would Be Compelling

Imagine how interesting hockey life would be in Buffalo if a team coached by Lindy Ruff came into First Niagara Center - say, three weeks from today - to battle the Sabres in a game with major playoff implications. With an opening created this morning courtesy of the Tampa Bay Lightning, that scenario may not be so far fetched. Continue reading "Ruff In Tampa Would Be Compelling"

Ruff’s out in Buffalo, Regier next?

After the Sabres played listless hockey for every non-Bruins game in the last month, fans clamored for head coach Lindy Ruff’s termination. Not only was Ruff’s message to the team and the system he employed growing stale, but the very idea of having a coach for this long grew stale. It was a novelty for a long time in Buffalo to have a coach whose tenure was unmatched by all...

Lindy Ruff will be back to work soon

Lindy Ruff might not be unemployed for long. Freshly fired after 15 years behind the Buffalo Sabres' bench (replaced by Ron Rolston of the AHL Rochester Americans), Ruff could be entrenched as head coach of another squad shortly -- if he's interested in taking on a new challenge right away. The general consensus amongst NHL coaches and general managers seems to be that the...

Do the Buffalo Sabres need to fire Lindy Ruff?

I’ve long been a defender of Lindy Ruff. For years, he coached teams that ranked in the bottom of the league in payroll in a cap-free world. As the longest tenured head coach in the NHL, he has lead some squads that overachieved and for a while it was easy to blame outside forces for the team’s recent shortcomings.  After all, when the fields evened after the full-season lockout...
