Following the Pittsburgh Penguins announcement that they had hired Jim Rutherford as their new General Manager, I spoke with many people who were very excited. The unusual thing is that it wasn’t Rutherford that they were excited about, but the promotion of Bill Guerin to Assistant General Manager.
It is a strange thing for someone to be excited about an Assistant GM, but Guerin...
I am a Bill Guerin fan. The announcement that the Penguins were promoting Billy G to Assistant GM brought a smile to my lips and joy to my heart. I wrote this article in 2013 but I proudly offer it today as a homage to a man from the Penguins' past who stands on the bridge to their future: The Pittsburgh Penguins entered 2009 with some issues in their organization. The 2008...

Doug Weight, Bill Guerin, Peter Karmanos, Ron Mason and Cindy Curley are headed for the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
USA Hockey made the announcement Thursday.
Guerin was a two-time Stanley Cup champion and four-time NHL All-Star during his career. He and Weight helped the U.S. win silver at the 2002 Olympics. Weight won a Stanley Cup and was a four-time NHL All-Star.
