Prior to the first Milwaukee Admirals game of the season, coach Dean Evason said he hoped to see how the team reacted to adversity and tough situations. After 3 games, the Admirals have yet to score the first goal, and tonight couldn't solve former Admiral goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris at all, and fell to the San Antonio Rampage 1-0. The Admirals again outplayed the opponent in the third period, winning the shots battle 10-3, but Grumet-Morris was up to the task against his former team and earned the shutout. The lone goal of the night came with some drama, as we got to see our first video replay use of the year. The stars were aligned tonight for Jared Gomes as he celebrated his 24th birthday with his first AHL game, and first AHL goal on his first AHL shot. The shot came off a great pass from the corner from Eric Selleck and beat Jeremy Smith up high. The puck bounced off the cross bar and to the post and came out, where Admirals defenseman Mike Moore cleared the puck over the glass. Referee Graham Skilliter originally waved the goal off, but checked the replay and declared it a good goal. The rest of the night, was pretty boring in all honesty. The Admirals really struggled to make plays around the big lineup of the Rampage featuring former Admiral Nolan Yonkman, Tyson Strachan, and Andre Deveaux. With Gabriel Bourque missing the game and Juuso Puustinen returning to the lineup, lines were shuffled again and that could be cause for no real chemisty as well. A rough travel day was mentioned in the post game as well, but thats just something you have to deal with in the American Hockey League. Thankfully the Admirals get right back into play tomorrow afternoon in Houston.
