CHARLOTTE -- Carolina Panthers rookie Star Lotulelei knew, nearly from the outset of his arrival last season, that the front seven on defense was going to be as good as any team's in the NFL.
However, it wasn't until the third game of the season that the defensive tackle was able to fully grasp just how good this defense was, and could be.

2013 stats: 16 starts, 3 sacks, 48 tackles, 11 pressures
2013 Review: Star Lotulelei had a very solid rookie year, exactly what you want out of a player at his position and experience. His numbers don’t do enough justice to his rookie year. He ranked 7th on the Carolina Panthers in tackles and was a huge part of the teams terrific run defense. Most impressively, you expect a rookie...
Considered one of the best prospects in the 2013 draft class by most, Star Lotulelei fell on draft day unexpectedly. And despite being the seventh defensive player draft, the Carolina Panthers couldn’t have been happier with the fact that they were able to land a “star” with the 14th pick in the draft.

At one point before the 2013 NFL Draft, defensive tackle Star Lotulelei was projected as a top-five pick. The Carolina Panthers selected Lotulelei at 14 overall, and it’s paid off for both sides. He's the best DT in the draft, yet he somehow fell all the way to Carolina at 14. The defensive tackle position has been a huge need in Carolina for years, and they've...
Round 1: No. 14 Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
Review: The Panthers have an illness to thank for this home-run pick.
Lotulelei acquired an undisclosed virus before the NFL Combine that caused an irregular heart test, for which he was later cleared, that allowed him to fall here. With Sharrif Floyd, Kenny Vaccaro and Eric Reid still on the board, general manager Dave Gettleman could...
The agent for first-round draft pick Star Lotulelei says his client has signed a four-year contract with the Carolina Panthers.
Financial terms were not released. The deal includes a team option for a fifth season.

After a year of moving heavy furniture into cabins in Utah, Star Lotulelei realized the working man's 9-to-5 life simply wasn't for him.
Lotulelei knew right then he needed to make his NFL dream happen - no matter what the cost.
And he did just that.
The defensive tackle was selected 14th overall in the NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman has been to six Super Bowls during his 25-plus years in the NFL and is convinced the only way to reach that summit is to assemble a great defensive line rotation.
So it came as no surprise that Gettleman got one of the "hog mollies" -- his term of endearment for big linemen -- he so coveted entering the NFL draft...
