NFL Injury Report:
The New England Patriots could be in the market for a wide
receiver this offseason, but could there be an interest in Minnesota Vikings
dynamic playmaker Percy Harvin? Karen Guregian of The Boston Herald notes that
Bill Belichick showed interest in Harvin when he was coming out of the
University of Florida, and she believes there could be mutual interest this
Heading into the draft, Harvin thought the Patriots were one
of the teams that would potentially select him.
"I'm real familiar with (Belichick)," Harvin said.
"He came down a bunch of times to talk to me, talk to the (Gators) team,
talk to (quarterback Tim) Tebow. I've heard a lot of things (about the 2009
draft). I think if Minnesota had passed, they would have taken me."
The Patriots could wind up parting ways with veterans Wes
Welker and Brandon Lloyd this offseason. Meanwhile, Harvin will reportedly hold
out if he doesn’t receive a new contract, while there’s been talk of the
Vikings potentially shopping the wide receiver.
The Patriots could probably find a better value by saving
their picks and money and entering the draft to find a new wide receiver. However,
the connection appears to be there and speculation figures to continue if the
team cuts ties with Welker and Lloyd.

Phil Loadholt is a good right tackle, but the cost of the franchise tag gets inflated by highly paid left tackles, making it unlikely Loadholt will get that designation.

The Patriots are simply not going to put an $11.4 million franchise tag on Welker, someone with intimate knowledge of the team’s thinking said.
