In a bit of a surprising move, the Houston Rockets are going to release center Dexter Pittman, according Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.
The move is surprising because the Rockets just released big man Greg Smith to sign Pittman. Smith has been a solid contributor for the Rockets in the past, averaging 6.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 15.9 minutes per game last season. He...
Former Miami Heat Center Dexter Pittman had a pretty busy year so far.
On February 21, 2013, Pittman and a second round pick were traded by the Heat to the Memphis Grizzlies for the rights to Ricky Sanchez and a trade exception. His tenure as a Grizzly was cut short when he was waived just two months later in April.
At that point, Dexter came to the conclusion...
Free agent center Dexter Pittman has accepted an invitation to the Chicago Bulls’ training camp, a league source told RealGM.
Pittman’s camp deal will be non-guaranteed, giving the 6-foot-11 big man an opportunity to battle for a spot on the regular season roster.
Pittman played four games for the San Antonio Spurs’ summer league team, averaging seven points, six rebounds and...
The Memphis Grizzlies have waived center Dexter Pittman, who played in only seven games with the team after being acquired in a trade from the Miami Heat.
The Grizzlies announced the move Sunday.
Memphis acquired the 6-foot-11 Pittman on Feb. 21 in a trade that also brought a 2013 second-round draft pick from the Heat in exchange for the draft rights to Ricky Sanchez.

MIAMI -- The Miami Heat now have an open roster spot, just in case someone comes along and intrigues the reigning NBA champions before the season enters the home stretch.
And in return, the Memphis Grizzlies got a big man.
The Heat sent backup center Dexter Pittman and a second-round pick in this year's draft to the Grizzlies on Thursday for the rights to center Ricky Sanchez...
Center Dexter Pittman was recalled by the Miami Heat on Thursday from the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the Development League. Pittman was assigned to the Skyforce on Dec. 26. He played in 10 games, averaging 12 points and 8.5 rebounds a game. Earlier this month, he was named to the second team D-League's Showcase in Reno, Nev., where he had four double-doubles.
Word is that the Miami Heat front office isn’t too fond of Pittman and his work ethic. Perhaps this is why Miami has been in constant search for big men this offseason.
“A Heat official said the team was disappointed in Dexter Pittman’s summer league work and “this is a crucial training camp for him. But the slate is clear.” Pittman has a guaranteed contract ($854,389...
Miami Heat would blowout the Indiana Pacers in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinals, and with a less than a minute remaining in the game, Pittman gives Stephenson a vicious elbow. The Heat were up by 25 points and the elbow given to Lance was deliberate and should have been a flagrant-2. It seems [...]
Here is the flagrant foul by Miami Heat's Dexter Pittman on Lance Stephenson during the closing seconds of Game 5 in Miami. This is probably revenge by the Heat and Pittman on Stephenson for Stephenson's choke gesture at LeBron James in Game 3.

The glimpses of Dexter Pittman have been fleeting.
Odds are, if you didn’t spend time in Sioux Falls, S.D., last season, you didn’t get much of a feel for how the game of the 2010 Heat second-round pick stacks up on the pro level.
And, yes, Pittman actually was selected as a D-League All-Star because of his work with the Skyforce (before a knee injury sidelined him).
