Ty Lawson believes he knows how to stop Steph Curry

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is coming off one of the best years for a NBA player in the recent history of the Association.

The most All-Star Game votes, the Three-Point Contest championship, NBA MVP and the NBA Title. Oh, and he has met with President Obama at least twice over the past several months.

Embarking on an opportunity to repeat as NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors have to be considered one of the favorites heading into the season. Right up there with them will be the Houston Rockets, who Golden State defeated in the Western Conference Finals last season.

Already known as a growing rivalry, new Rockets guard Ty Lawson — always an enigmatic figure around the NBA world — took some time this week to throw some serious pot shots Curry's way:

“Steph Curry needed someone to go back at him,” Lawson told Yahoo Sports about the guard's performance during the Western Conference Finals. “I thought Steph was just chillin’ on defense – and then going crazy on offense. He looked like he was just putting shots up and not working so much on the defensive end. He would just come down and hit three or four 3s. He can shoot when he’s got his legs under him.”

Never really known for his prowess at the defensive end of the court, Curry actually performed at a high clip in this aspect of his game last season.

According to Pro Basketball Reference, Curry finished 15th (third among guards) in defensive win shares last season. Interestingly, Lawson's new teammate, James Harden, finished 10th in that category.

Playing without starting point guard Patrick Beverley in the conference finals, the Rockets didn't have an answer for Curry on either the offensive or defensive end of the court. In fact, Lawson texted Harden during the series, telling the MVP candidate to get him (Lawson) to Houston.

Now that Lawson is on the Rockets, he will have an opportunity to actually do his talking on the court, not to a Yahoo! scribe. The first meeting between these two rivals is October 30th in Houston. It should be a blast.
