Jimmie Johnson is seriously having a season for the ages. We are only half way through the season and five-time looks to be well on his way to a sixth Sprint Cup title after already amassing four wins. Johnson holds a firm 49-point grasp on the points lead, and his strong stretch of races usually isn’t until we hit the September to November part of the calendar.
It seems as long as nothing insane happens to Johnson from here on out, the driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet should be the point leader before the standings are reset for the playoffs. But that alone is reason enough to not crown Johnson champion just yet.
