From Image CPR:
NASCAR driver Mark Martin walked away after a frightening crash in Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at the Michigan International Speedway.
Martin was leading on lap 64 when Bobby Labonte spun off Turn 4. Martin and Kasey Kahne were caught up in the crash.
Martin slid sideways for more than 100 feet down pit road. His car slammed right into the edge the wall. It was as if the narrow wall turned into a spear and went through the car less than two feet behind Martin.
“That was a pretty freak angle,” Martin said. “I’m not sure what you could do. It could have been really bad if I would have got in that hole a little deeper where it caught me in the door instead of the crush area.”
Martin led the race for 40 laps after capturing the 55th pole of his career.
No one was injured in the crash.
