PLAYERS: Brad Keselowski
This weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship will be decided. Points leader Brad Keselowski and Jimmie Johnson have one last shot. I think it's going to all start when we get down there, we're going to start listening to these guys once again try to put into words what this means to them. Then we're going to be looking at that first practice session to see how everybody is starting to stack up and shake out right from the get-go. Does Brad have a fast race car? Does Jimmie have a faster race car? Everyone will look at how those two kind of look at each other through round one of this weekend. Then it will come down to qualifying. Good qualifying position, we saw it last weekend, it kind of sets the stage for everybody. Either you are already up front or you have to work extra hard to do something different to get to the front. That puts a little bit more mental strain on you. I think you make mistakes because of it. Jimmie Johnson, who started 24th last Sunday, is one of the greatest drivers to ever put a helmet on his head, but his car was pushing at Phoenix. He was working it a little too hard and he melted a bead on the tire and crashed. Could it have been prevented? Could he have done something different? I don't think we'll ever know. Fact of the matter is, he hit the wall. When you qualify in the back, then try to carry the car and make something happen that maybe you shouldn't, you can get in trouble. That's where Brad Keselowski is right now. He has the lead and needs to protect it. Can he restrain himself and not put that car in harm's way? That's yet to be seen. Keselowski and Johnson are going to be parked next to each other all weekend. Their teams will be working side by side in the Cup garage. It's a challenge. If you've got little personal issues going on or a bit of a rivalry going on, that can be a little bit of a strain on you. If they show you respect, you try to show them respect. It's all how your personality and your respect factor come down. It's tough to do that, but at the same time it's very acceptable, to a certain degree, as long as you've got a mutual respect for one another.

Keselowski needs to focus on title

I'm a big believer in the basic theory -- don't get off your gameplan in the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship race. Don't get off of what got you here the first 35 races. I'm living proof that getting off your gameplan will cost you a championship. We went to Atlanta the final race of the year in 1992 with Davey Allison, Robert Yates Racing and the No. 28 car and we...

Johnson, Keselowski test one another

Jimmie Johnson's prerace strategy for this weekend is simple - plant a seed of doubt in the mind of opponent Brad Keselowski. As the clock ticks closer to Sunday's season finale, which will decide the Sprint Cup championship, Johnson knows from experience that moments of uncertainty will start to flood Keselowski's mind. After competing for multiple NASCAR titles -...

NASCAR's Keselowski can't tweet in car anymore

Brad Keselowski became an instant social media darling for hopping on Twitter during a lengthy delay in the Daytona 500. The tweets made Keselowski the center of attention. NASCAR seemed trendy and hip - a description its executives surely adored. Turns out, tweeting from the car isn't that cool with NASCAR: Keselowski was fined $25,000 on Monday for tweeting during the red...

Jimmie Johnson turns heat up on Brad Keselowski

Five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson is the king of mind games and he doesn't mind reminding Brad Keselowski what's at stake at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. Keselowski takes a 20-point lead over Johnson into Sunday's finale. He needs only to finish 15th or better to win his first Sprint Cup title. Johnson opened Thursday's news conference talking about...

Hendrick: No regrets on Keselowski

Brad Keselowski was once on the fast track in the Hendrick Motorsports farm system. Now he's battling Rick Hendrick's five-time champion Jimmie Johnson for the 2012 Sprint Cup title. With Nationwide Series team JR Motorsports, a Hendrick Motorsports sister operation owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Keselowski finished the 2007 season in the No. 88 Chevrolet. The next two seasons...

NASCAR: Championship far from decided as Brad Keselowski struggles at Homestead

Many would consider the 20-point cushion for Brad Keselowski enough to go ahead and crown him the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion. And with the way he’s running this year and turning in strong finishes at tracks he usually struggles at, why wouldn’t you etch his name on the trophy? He’s been clutch and running like a champion each week. All he has to do Sunday is finish 17th...
