JRM’s SHORT TRACK INFO - JRM team cars have tallied a top-10 finish in over half of the nine short track starts in Nationwide Series competition this season. All totaled, drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Danica Patrick and Cole Whitt have earned one top-five and five top-10 finishes on short tracks in 2012.
PHOENIX POLE AWARD - JR Motorsports’ sixth organizational pole came at Phoenix International Raceway last year with the No. 88 team. They went on to lead a season-high 66 laps in the race.
WHITT’S SHORT TRACK PROFILE - Whitt has notched three top-10 finishes (Iowa, Bristol II and Dover II) on short tracks this season. His average finish is 12.6.
88 TEAM CHASSIS INFO - The 88 team will race chassis 605 this weekend in Phoenix. Whitt has a best finish of seventh with this chassis at Iowa, and raced it in four short track events this season, including earlier this spring in Phoenix.
PATRICK ON SHORT TRACKS - Patrick owns one top-10 finish on a short track, which came earlier this season at Bristol Motor Speedway. The Roscoe, Ill. native has made solid gains on short tracks through her stock car career, seeing her average finishing position improve from 33.5 in her rookie campaign to 20.6 in 2012.
7 TEAM CHASSIS INFO - Patrick is scheduled to drive chassis 613 at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend. She earned a pair of top-10 finishes wheeling this chassis at the spring Texas event and Kansas.
DANICA PATRICK ON PHOENIX: “I’ve transitioned through quite a bit over these years. It was coming every month or so into the car and doing a race, and trying to get comfortable quickly after driving in IndyCar for a while. There was that transition for two years, and then this being the first full time year in Nationwide. That’s a lot of transitions and a lot of things to get used to, new cars and new schedules. I think that it all helps me adapt quicker and helps me focus on being more specific with my words and more poignant with what I want. There has been a lot I’ve learned, for sure, and I have a lot left to learn. Just understanding the cars and how they change from practice to the race, and then how they change during the race. Those are things that are just so much more unique to NASCAR than they are to IndyCar.”
COLE WHITT ON PHOENIX: “I fully expect Phoenix to be slick, a lot like it was in the spring. The track will get more grip as it gets weathered, but that will take some time.
“The team’s mindset and attitude is really positive heading into Phoenix. We ran top five for most of the race last week, and very easily could have finished there. That last caution just screwed it up for us. “We’re fully capable of running top 10 every week, and if we play our cards right, top-five. The team is really confident after the way we’ve been running. It’s good to see the gradual improvement and unloading top-five cars at the track has really helped us in our goal to move forward. With two weeks to go, we want to get all we can.”
