The Los Angeles Angels have placed pitcher Tommy Hanson on the restricted list as he grieves for the loss of his step-brother. Taking his place on the active roster for that time will be pitcher Michael Roth, a left-hander from Double-A Arkansas. Roth serves as bullpen depth.

Angels put Hanson on restricted list
The Los Angeles Angels have placed pitcher Tommy Hanson on the restricted list and recalled LHP Michael Roth from Double-A Arkansas before their game Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
Hanson was the Angels' scheduled starter Friday and was replaced by Barry Enright. The Angels said Hanson is tending to a personal matter.
