The next player in the Mets360 preseason projection review is Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The original piece with the projections can be found here. As a group, the Mets360 staff projected the following line for Nieuwenhuis:
PA – 382
AVG – .250
OBP – .320
SLG – .383
HR – 10
RBI – 42
OPS vs. LHP – .540
One of the biggest question marks for Nieuwenhuis going into the 2013 season...
Triple-A Las Vegas has been an interesting place for the past 10 games or so. Some players are putting on shows and it HAS to make some people wonder when they might be called up to help that team in Queens. Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Omar Quintanilla, Josh Satin, Wilmer Flores and Francisco Pena all have made cases in the past week to be thought of for promotion.
With two weeks to go before Opening Day, Kirk Nieuwenhuis should be thinking about where he would live in New York rather than Las Vegas.
Nieuwenhuis, who made a strong first impression with the Mets last year, came to camp penciled in as the center fielder and first in line to win the leadoff spot. However, a hitless streak at the start of the exhibition schedule punctuated with...

Good news for the Mets… Center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee and avoided any ligament damage. Adam Rubin reported the news after Nieuwenhuis returned from his MRI.
Mets will treat him with anti-inflammatory medication and he’ll miss a couple of days. Looks like the team dodged a bullet….

Several days ago I gave you my idea for the Mets’ batting order and it included Kirk Nieuwenhuis as the leadoff hitter, so I was happy to read Adam Rubin’s story he will be given first chance to win that job.
Nieuwenhuis will be the leadoff hitter for Saturday’s exhibition game against Washington.
The Mets like Nieuwenhuis’ patience – he sees over four pitches an at-bat...
Who is Kirk Nieuwenhuis? The numbers tell a very intriguing story on this Met outfielder who was our third round pick out of Starfleet Academy in the 2008 draft. Since going pro, Captain Kirk has had 1,512 minor league at bats with a .280 avg. and an .817 OPS, but there are two seasons that stand out, his 2009 season at St. Lucie, and his 2010 season at Binghamton. 2009 by...
The Mets need outfield help. You, I and the family pet all know this much. It’s so obviously evident, that the Mets should post a Craigslist ad asking for outfield help!
One current Mets’ outfielder who stands a decent chance of cracking the starting rotation is Kirk Nieuwenhuis.
Scott Hairston and Andres Torres are likely gone (especially Torres), as they are soon to be free...
Although the Mets have been struggling the last few games, one person that continues to impress me is Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who has done an excellent job with the injuries that the Mets have had to deal with.
Nieuwenhuis tied his career highs with three runs scored and three hits last night. He has the fourth-highest average (.295) among NL rookies, and ranks first with 59 hits, tied...
The 2012 Mets are succeeding thanks to a great record in close games. It is up for debate if they will be able to continue this performance throughout the year but for right now they are 11-3 in games decided by one or two runs. Most fans would say they have done a good job of coming through in the clutch. And perhaps no one has come through in the clutch more than Kirk Nieuwenhuis...

7. Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Outfield, Bats: L, Throws: R, Age: 24, ETA: 2012
I’ve always been a strong supporter of Kirk Nieuwenhuis, as evidenced by my ability to spell his name without difficulty on command.
If it wasn’t for season-ending shoulder surgery last year, Kirk might already have a spot on this Mets bench.
He’s been showcasing his well-rounded skill set for a few years...
