Hefner Lasts Just Four Innings In Mets 8-2 Loss To Cubs
Jeremy Hefner lasted just four innings and dropped to 0-5 on the season as the Mets took it on the chin in an 8-2 loss to the Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field.
Hefner allowed four runs on five hits and three walks and quickly put his team in a hole. The right-hander now has a 5.00 ERA and the Mets are 0-8 when he starts a game.
“He just fell behind in counts,” said Terry Collins...
Mets Wrap: Jeremy Hefner Gives Quality Start; Offense Does Not
The newest Met, Rick Ankiel, couldn’t hold onto Ty Wigginton’s sinking line drive for a double. Wigginton then scored from second on an infield hit off pitcher Scott Rice. Matt Holliday followed with a two-run homer, and just like that it was over and the Mets had their fourth straight loss, 6-3, at St. Louis to fall seven games below .500.
HEFNER: Good, just not good enough...

Jeremy Hefner’s Jekyl and Hyde performance linked to HR allowed
Jeremy Hefner’s overall numbers look poor this year (0-3, 4.34 ERA) but he’s pitched much better than his record indicates. He’s made five starts – and one horrid relief appearance – and three of them he’s pitched well enough to win. All three of those outings were Quality Starts and in them he threw 21 IP and allowed 4 ER.
The good news for Hefner is that two of his...
Another Stunning Walk-Off Defeat As Mets Squander Brilliant Start By Hefner
Wow, that one hurt. What a punch in the gut…
The Miami Marlins came back in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Mets 2-1 in stunning fashion as the winning run scored on a Brandon Lyon wild pitch. The loss is the sixth straight defeat for the Mets, matching their longest losing streak of the 2012 season and it’s only April 30.
I feel more worse about Jeremy Hefner being denied...
Jeremy Hefner Tries To Stop Mets’ Slide
Jeremy Hefner: Streak stopper.
Some clairvoyant on television said this morning, “the Mets have lost five straight for the first time this season.’’ He’s probably right, but that’s an awful assumption.
All streaks must end somewhere, and while Matt Harvey didn’t stop the slide last night, the Mets will ask Hefner to do it tonight.
Hefner, who hasn’t been consistently...
Mets Squander Solid Start By Hefner In 3-2 Loss To Dodgers
There were no extra-inning dramatics in this one – no buck shots either – as the Mets squandered a solid start from Jeremy Hefner in a 3-2 matinee loss to the Dodgers.
Hefner gave the Mets seven solid innings on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out three. He didn’t figure into the decision and left with the game knotted at 1-1. The...
Is Jeremy Hefner en route to becoming a rotation mainstay?
After pitching six quality innings in which he gave up just five hits and two walks while limiting the Marlins to one run in a no-decision, it certainly appears that Hefner is here to stay in the Mets’ rotation.
The criminally underrated Hefner is a pitcher who gets by on grit and determination. While not blessed with the greatest stuff, Hefner is your classic bulldog who battles...
Jeremy Hefner Headed For X-Rays After Being Struck By Comebacker
Jeremy Hefner left today’s game after getting hit with a comebacker in his fourth inning of work. He is headed to the hospital for X-rays.
Carlos Beltran was the hitter when Hefner was struck, and Hefner was unable to get out of the way of the ball headed right back at him off of Beltran’s bat. The ball hit him in his pitching arm around his elbow, which is always scary.
It...
Can Jeremy Hefner seize the moment in 2013?
Back in October I referred to Jeremy Hefner as undervalued because most people looked at his traditional statistics (4-7, 5.09 ERA) and determined that he was not very good. But if you looked at other numbers, he displayed a bunch of promise. Those numbers were a 4.06 xFIP, a 1.3 fWAR and a .615 Quality Start percentage.
The Mets’ plan appeared to be to use Hefner as a long...
