Theo Scoops Up Drake Britton Off Waivers

Britton (L), Epstein (R)Theo Epstein took advantage of his knowledge of Drake Britton by scooping up the left-hander off waivers from the Red Sox. Epstein probably was instrumental in drafting the Texas native in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft—unless it was during his Gorilla Suit Period. Britton posted a 2.93 ERA in limited action over two seasons with Boston. The Cubs released Gonzalez...

Red Sox Release Lefty Reliever Drake Britton

Drake BrittonThe Red Sox designated reliever Drake Britton for assignment—essentially to make room on the roster for newly-acquired Alexi Ogando. The 25-year old Waco, Texas native had a see-saw career at the lower levels of the Boston organization—although he performed very well in The Show. In 25 total games for the big club, Britton went 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA. It's probably...

Hello, Daniel Nava; Goodbye, Drake Britton

I was pretty happy to see Daniel Nava re-up with the Sox. In a world full of professional athletes who seem to swill too often from the douchiness jug, Nava is a legitimate good guy — someone who seems to appreciate every opportunity he gets to slip on the uniform and take the field. Last year, when he was sent to the minors, he took it in stride, never whining or grandstanding...

Drake Britton Unfazed By Chris Capuano Signing Despite Added Competition

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Drake Britton’s chances of making the Boston Red Sox’s Opening Day roster dropped significantly when the club signed Chris Capuano to a one-year contract. The 24-year-old isn’t hanging his head. “I can only worry about myself and getting myself ready,” Britton said Friday at JetBlue Park. “They’re obviously bringing [Capuano] in for a reason. They’re...
