The New York Mets won Sunday’s rubber-match game with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon but lost their starting shortstop, Ruben Tejada, to a right quad injury in the process. Tejada was attempting to bunt for a hit in the fourth inning with the Mets up two runs and was successful…..sorta. The young shortstop seemed to tweak something while running down the line and in doing so tripped and face planted past the bag.
Exactly how long Tejada will be out is not yet known, but according to Mike Puma of the New York Post, a trip to the DL seems likely:

Mets person says Tejada MRI results “not good” and DL stint “very likely.”

Tejada, on the other hand, apparently thinks otherwise:

Mets person added that final decision on Tejada won’t be made until he is evaluated on Monday. Tejada still thinks he can play in few days.

The Mets would struggle to fill Tejada’s void both in the field and at the plate as the 22-year-old has been on fire of late with 16 hits in his last 38 at-bats (.421 avg).
Beyond that, with Ronny Cedeno on the disabled list and not due to return till Friday at the earliest, the Mets would likely have to turn to rookie Jordanny Valdespin at short if a trip to the DL is required for Tejada.

Jordany Valdespin will be in Philly, awaiting word whether Tejada is placed on DL, I’m told

Tejada has been fun to watch all year and with the way he’s been handling the bat I’ve begun to rethink what his ceiling as a hitter might be. Right now all we can do is hope for the best but it’s tough to be optimistic when it comes to injuries and the Mets. The one thing the front office has done since Spring Training is consistently err on the side of caution and while that approach may not get a player on the field the quickest, it will hopefully keep them there when they return.
