MLB Injury News:
The Baltimore Orioles haven’t received the production they
were hoping for out of their starting pitchers so far this season. As a result,
they are reportedly looking for rotation help, and “there’s an increasing feeling
around baseball people” that the team could dangle left-handed starting pitcher
Zach Britton in a trade, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe.
Britton is formerly one of the O’s highly regarding pitching
prospects. He showed flashes of his ability while making his major league debut
in 2011 – posting a 4.61 ERA over 28 starts. However, he took a step back last
year, struggling to the tune of a 5.07 ERA over 12 appearances – including 11
The southpaw has posted a solid ERA (1.98) over three starts
for the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate, but his peripherals haven’t been quite as
impressive. Britton’s struck out five batters in 13 2/3 innings while allowing
The Orioles only have one starting pitcher – Wei-Yin Chen –
with an ERA below 4.00. Jason Hammel and Miguel Gonzalez have been passable as
rotation arms, but Jake Arrieta (6.63 ERA) and Chris Tillman (7.07 ERA) have
been awful to start the season.
