Former St. Louis Cardinals centerfield Colby Rasmus was one of the most scrutinized players in recent memory during his days in St. Louis.  Fans did not understand the kid's laid back attitude and balked at his perceived laziness in centerfield. Now that he is a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, Rasmus is evidently doing his best to ingrain himself in Canadian culture. The 26 year old recently tried his hand at curling at an event in Saskatoon last week. Colby Rasmus curling in Saskatoon. Never thought I'd see this. #WinterTour @bluejays @sportsnet twitter.com/SportsnetJamie… — Jamie Campbell (@SportsnetJamie) January 11, 2013 Rasmus has always been an interesting fellow and to see the Alabama native curling is, to say the least, an interesting sight. Rasmus had an up-and-down year last season for the Blues Jays. He hit just .243 on the season, but belted 23 home runs and knocked in 75 RBI. It is good to see that Rasmus is trying to endear himself to the Toronto fa...

Help young Cardinals by being a host family in Peoria

A major benefit of minor league baseball is the close interaction fans can enjoy with players. Some individuals can take that personal involvement to an even higher level by opening up their homes and become host families for players. Minor leaguers are young, relatively low-paid and usually assigned at the last moment to an unfamiliar outpost far away from home. It is especially...

LOUIS, January 13, 2013 – The St. Louis Cardinals are urging fans attending this weekend’s Winter Warm-Up (#WWU) to donate a baseball glove in support of the “Gloves 4 Troops” effort organized by Cardinals minor league infielder Vance Albitz who hopes to collect at least a thousand baseball gloves and balls by Spring Training 2013. “This is a great opportunity to support...

The Blue Jays and AA are an organization on a mission. AA has been stock-piling top prospects for a few years and built one of, if not the best farm system in all of baseball. But an air of weakness... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Blue Jays' R.A. Dickey Commits to WBC

The names of players committing to play in the World Baseball Classic are coming fast now.  Albert Pujols is likely to play, as we mentioned earlier, and now it seems R.A. Dickey will represent Team USA.  Dickey is coming off a Cy Young performance in 2012, but he is also recovering from offseason abdominal surgery. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says Dickey is among a list of...

2013 Cardinals Top 10 Composite Prospect List

Each year I like to compile a composite prospect list, taking the top prospects lists from across the web, assigning points to each ranking and then using these points to create a composite ranking.  I do this each February for the top 100 prospects in baseball, which can be found at my MLB Composite Prospect Index site and I also do it for my favorite team, the Cardinals. Below...

2013 Top 50 Prospect List

After almost a month of delay, it's finally here! The  Southpaw Top 50 Prospect list has arrived. This list is coming over two months later in the off season than last year, but given all of Alex's dealings, it's probably a good thing. In 2011 I listed 60 "names to know" in order to include not just prospects in the normal sense (given that no team has remotely...

The 32-year old owns a career batting average of .255 over 12 seasons in the big show. However, his bat certainly...

Discount Double Check: J.P. Arencibia

How did I GET here? Did Grey open a magical portal and whisk me away from my fantasy football world like he was Dr. Who? I don't remember stepping into his TARDIS. The last thing I do remember was some guy with a mustache, free candy and a windowless van but he said he wanted to step into MY TARDIS. I don't think I'm remembering that last word right. In any case...
