So much for a Triple Crown, USA Today has reported that I'll Have Another has withdrawn from Saturday's Belmont Stakes after an injury to his left front tendon. It ends his bid to become the first Triple Crown winner in 34 years.
Don't look now but the number of viewers has just decreased dramatically as no one cares now that history is not going to be made.
Trainer Paul O'Neill and owner J. Paul Reddam showed the horse was not crippled and they noticed the swelling this morning.
I'll Have Another was trying to replace Affirmed as the last horse to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont.
According to USAToday, O'Neill said the chestnut colt had been a "little quiet" the last few days. The injury was first noticed Thursday when the team noticed a loss of definition in his left front leg after he galloped. After applying a special poultice, I'll Have Another was back to the track early Friday morning.[...]
