Eblouissante, a half sister to 2012 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, banged her hip on the receiving barn door just 30 minutes before she was about to load into the gate for Saturdays fourth race at Betfair Hollywood Park. The injury removed a layer of skin and left a bruise on the strapping dark bay filly which, in turn, forced her to scratch out of the optional claiming race.
“She bruised her hip,” trainer John Shirreffs said on Saturday evening.”It’s hard to say (if she’ll miss any training). We’ll have to see how she is when she walks out of the stall (Sunday).”
One Sunday afternoon Sherriffs updated her situation by saying “She’s good this morning; It was a contusion or abrasion. It took some hair off and it’s bruised. We’re treating it topically now. We iced it about four or five times (Saturday). She’s walking good on it so we’re going to take her out and train her and see how she handles it.”
