The NCAA has turned down Notre Dame star Tim Abromaitis' request for a sixth year of eligibility.
The school confirmed the decision Wednesday and said there were no plans to appeal.
Abromaitis was lost for the season Nov. 25 when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice. The 6-foot-8 fifth-year senior had played in two games.

Pat Connaughton scored 21 points, Jack Cooley had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and No. 23 Notre Dame erased a 20-point deficit in a 74-70 overtime victory over Villanova on Saturday.

Already reeling after two straight losses, the Notre Dame basketball program got some more bad news on Friday when the school revealed that fifth-year senior and team captain Tim Abromaitis will miss the remainder of the 2011-2012 season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
