It’s a shame that the “Sugar” Shane Mosley-Paulie Malignaggi was cancelled, as that fight would given the boxing world a real sense of how much Mosley has left in the his tank after a lengthy career. Malignaggi, the WBA welterweight champ, is riding a five-fight win streak since his TKO loss to Amir Khan in 2010 and would have been a tough opponent for Mosley. Mosley is coming off four disappointing fights in a row, going 3-1 in those fights, losing to the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and fighting a game Sergio Mora to a 12-round draw. Looking like a shell of his former self against three of the best the sport has to offer, it makes one wonder if Mosley should continue fighting at all. If he does continue on, fighting the likes of Marcos Maidana and Humberto Soto will tell us nothing, unless he loses, then we’ll really know it’s time for Sugar Shane to call it quits.
