Even though Abner Mares (Golden Boy) and Mikey Garcia (Top Rank) may never meet in the ring in a meaningful fight due to the biggest problem in boxing, promotion company rivalries, the next best thing would be seeing the two in a exhibition match for charity. Mares’ idea is not a bad idea, as seeing him and Garcia in a bout that is a glorified sparring match doesn’t seem to great by itself, but helping out charity is always a reason to make something happen. Mares (27-0-1, 14 KOs) is a two-division champ and currently holds the WBC featherweight title and is quickly on the rise on most pound-for-pound lists. Garcia (32-0, 27 KOs)is a heavy-handed multiple time champion himself and looks like one of the sport’s future stars, as his record and KO ability is sure to keep fans backing any fight he’s in.
