College football underdogs packed a nasty bite last weekend with 40 of 67 games against the favorites in Las Vegas and at sportsbooks around the world.

And there were plenty of big dogs on the Week 3 opening lines as well, including Wake Forest at +26.5, Eastern Michigan at +23.5, Kansas as a +21 home dog to TCU, and new Division 1 entry UMass (+45.5 vs Michigan).

"NCAA football is a much different game to handicap than the NFL and these monster point spreads are the reason why," said Jack Randall of OddsShark.com. "It's a challenge setting accurate lines for even the best sportsbooks on the web and handicapping the games is even tougher.

"But it does produce opportunity for finding value if bettors can focus on certain teams and conferences and learn a lot about them."

Top-ranked Alabama visits SEC rival Arkansas in a key battle that saw lots of early wagering action. The Tide has outscored its first two foes 76-14 and lays 19.5 points on the early spread.
