A healthy and motivated Peyton Manning has Super Bowl 48 bettors convinced that Denver can beat Seattle and cover the small point spread too.
The line opened at PK, but was quickly bet to -2.5, where it remained at online shops such as Topbet.eu.
For those with an early bet on Super Bowl XLVIII, it could prove terrific value if Denver’s record-setting 2013 regular season ends with a flourish.
Denver set a league record for points and Manning appears ready to claim another NFL MVP award. He is also favored to be Super Bowl MVP.
But the Seattle Seahawks led the league in defense by a wide margin.
“They say defense wins championships and the last four times this scenario emerge – No. 1 offense versus No. defense – the defensive wizards won,” said Jack Randall of OddsShark.com.
The Super Bowl betting trends paint a picture of Seattle claiming the title. The NFC is 5-1 ATS in the past six Super Bowls and underdogs enjoy that same 5-1 ATS streak.
Seattle is also dynamite as an underdog, rolling up a 17-3-1 ATS profit for bettors the past 21 times they faced this situation at the betting window.
But they have also lost 12 of 15 meetings to Denver, most of that record dating back a decade or more.
And Denver has been excellent as a favorite, winning nine of 11 and covering eight spreads along the way.
Of course, Super Bowl betting offers far more than wagering on the final score. Dozens of fun prop bets are dotting the sportsbook landscape, everything from coin toss odds to the national anthem length to whether it will snow in the NFL’s first cold-weather championship game.
And expect hundreds of player props, ranging from total number of sacks in the game to margin of victory to will Manning pass for more yardage than his Seahawk counterpart Russell Wilson.
