Against all odds he lasted 15 seasons, generally keeping Predators competitive despite the lack of high-end scorers. Over the years Nashville has landed elite goaltending (Pekka Rinne) and top defensemen (Shea Weber, Ryan Suter, Seth Jones) but not-so-great forwards.
Alexander Radulov could have been that guy, but he preferred playing in Russia. He was just so-so in his first run in Nashville and his one comeback ended very, very badly. David Legwand never became a true franchise forward and veterans Paul Kariya and Peter Forsberg just passed through with out making much of a mark.
Former Blues defenseman Phil Housley will be considered for this job after serving as Trotz’s assistant this season, but GM David Poile could go for a more experienced hand like Peter Laviolette – who could find himself in high demand this spring.
