When the Sens shocked the hockey world last season by making the playoffs in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, Zack Smith was a big part of it. He improved tremendously on his 2010-11 season, scoring 17 more points, and solidified himself as a gritty 3rd line center with some offensive ability. His 2011-12 season gained him a ton of praise from the team and fans alike, and earned himself a $1.887 million extension, which kicks in next year. After going goal-less for the first 23 games of the season, and with just 4 goals total to date, Zack Smith has been on the receiving end of some criticism for his lack of production.
