Purdue ended it's search for a new head coach on Tuesday night as CBSSports.com is reporting that Kent State's Darrell Hazell accepted the Boilermakers offer to become their next head coach. Hazell is replacing Danny Hope who led Purdue to a 6-6 record in his final year and an appearance in the Heart of Dallas Bowl against Oklahoma State on New Years Day.  Purdue is hiring Darrell Hazell as its new coach, a source tells CBS. — Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) December 5, 2012 Hazell's Golden Flashes were 11-2 overall and 8-1 in MAC play this season. He was in just his 2nd season as the head coach there and compiled a 16-9 overall record in those two seasons. Before leaving for Kent State Hazell was on the staff of Ohio State.  It appears as though this is a typical Purdue hire as of late. By that I mean they hired a guy with a limited resume as a head coach and are hoping to catch lighting in a bottle with a coach who's had one good season and runs a spread offensive system that requires explosive athletes. Hazell was just 5-7 in his first season with the Golden Flashes before exploding to success this season and making a trip to the MAC Championship game. Kent State finished 21st in the final BCS rankings of the season for that effort this year. As more breaks and things become official via Purdue sports we will have more here for you.
