The Pats have won four Super Bowls since 2001, while the Red Sox have three World Series wins in that same time frame. The Celtics and Bruins have also have had one apiece during that period, making Beantown the new Titletown, USA.

The Yankees have seen better days, but their 27 all-time World Series wins, with the most recent coming in 2009, are unmatched in American sports. The Giants have won two Super Bowls in the last decade. The Rangers also made the Stanley Cup Final in 2014 and the Mets are coming off a World Series appearance. As for the Knicks, Nets and Jets... well, NYC fans don't want to discuss them at the moment.

San Francisco

San Francisco sports fans are in a golden age, with the Giants winning three of the last six World Series, while the Warriors won the 2014-15 NBA title and followed up with another trip to the Finals after a record-breaking 73-win regular season. However, the once-proud 49ers are looking to rebound with new coach Chip Kelly following a tumultuous run under now former head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles
Focus on Sport

The Lakers are struggling as Kobe Bryant's career closes, but few NBA fans have sympathy for their 16 rings. The Clippers have gone from being a perennial joke to perennial playoff team. A crosstown rivalry is brewing after the Dodgers and Angels made the playoffs in 2014, and the Kings have won two Stanley Cups in the last four seasons. Throw in the Rams returning to L.A., and Hollywood is thriving.

Pittsburgh

The "City of Champions" boasts the Steelers, who are synonymous with winning, with six Super Bowl wins overall, including two in the last 11 years. The Penguins just won the Stanley Cup, the second for Sidney Crosby and Co. with the other coming in 2009, and even the once-lowly Pirates are coming on strong recently, making consecutive playoff appearances after years of futility.

Green Bay

There isn't much to do in Green Bay beyond Packers football, but fans sure have pride for their team (which is publicly owned). The Packers are a perennial playoff team that boasts the a former MVP and won their fourth Super Bowl in 2010.

Montreal

Sure, the Expos are a distant memory, but the Canadiens lead the NHL with 24 Stanley Cup victories all time. And while the CFL may not get much play in the States, the Alouettes have captured the league's Grey Cup three times and appeared in the game another five times this century.

San Antonio

The Spurs are a rare modern-day dynasty with five championships since 1999. Coach Gregg Popovich and Tim Duncan will be remembered by San Antonio natives much more fondly than the Alamo.

Dallas

Mavs owner Mark Cuban finally got his ring in 2011, and the team remains competitive. The Dallas Cowboys have been trying to get back to stardom after their dynasty in the '90s and had a strong 2014 season. Both the Stars and Rangers have come on strong recently as well, earning playoff berths.

Baltimore

Ray Lewis retired from the Ravens with his second Super Bowl win in 2012, and the team continues to be a strong competitor each season. The Orioles with Buck Showalter are coming off of a surprising AL East title in 2014.

St. Louis

St. Louis fans can overlook the recent playoff failures of the Blues because they bleed Cardinal red. The Red Birds have two World Series wins this century and 11 all time. However, even that may not heal the wound of losing the Rams, who return to L.A. for the 2016 season.

Denver

The Broncos just capped off one of the most impressive defensive seasons ever, earning the franchises third all-time Super Bowl win. The Avs don't win like they used to but have built a brief tradition with Stanley Cup wins in 1996 and 2001. The Nuggets and Rockies, however, are still searching for their first championships.

Seattle

Had Pete Carroll called a run instead of a pass on the last play in Super Bowl XLIX, we might be talking about the Seahawks winning their second Super Bowl in as many seasons. The Mariners were trending up after improving in 2014, but they've had some ups and downs since. The Sounders have become a powerhouse franchise in the MLS.

Chicago

No team in American sports can match the futility of the Chicago Cubs, with their last title coming in 1908. The Bears are also coming off of a terrible run, and the Bulls are still trying to realize their potential with the oft-injured Derrick Rose leading the way. That said, both the White Sox and Blackhawks claimed championships this century, with the latter winning three Cups in the last seven years.

Cleveland

It sure is tough to be a Browns fan these days, and the plights of owner Jimmy Haslam and Johnny Manziel haven't made it any easier. The Indians are also searching for their first World Series win since 1948. Cleveland's only realistic championship hopes at the moment currently rest on the shoulders of LeBron James and the Cavs.

Buffalo

It was the ultimate insult to Buffalo fans when head coach Doug Marrone left at the end of 2014 without another job in sight, and the team last made the playoffs in 1999. But at least now they have Rex Ryan. The Sabres are still in search of their first Stanley Cup but at least have the Jack Eichel era to look forward to.

Detroit

Lions fans suffered through some of the bleakest seasons a football fan base has ever seen and are only seeing the dividends recently, but that window may also be closing now with Calvin Johnson's retirement. The Pistons are showing some signs of promise under Stan Van Gundy but are still mediocre at best, while the Tigers have been up and down the past decade.

The sports scene has been rough of late in the Twin Cities, but things are looking up in 2016. Adrian Peterson is back and the Vikings have a talented young nucleus of players following up a playoff berth last season. The Twins made strides in 2015, and the Wolves might have the best young group of players in the NBA in Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns and Zach LaVine

Houston

The Astros and their rebuilding plan were the joke of MLB — until last season, when things all came together a few seasons early. The Rockets and Texans have provided some hope for their fans in recent years but still don't have any hardware to show for their efforts.

Oakland

The Raiders' last winning season was 2002, and they've been the NFL's worst team since then. However, they made strides last year and look to be a team on the rise. The A's continue to compete with their Moneyball ways but still haven't actually come close to reaching a World Series.

Philadelphia

Philadelphia

The 76ers have seen some dire recent days as they try to improve their roster through the draft, and the Phillies are headed in the same direction. The Eagles missed the playoffs in 2014 and 2015 and are looking to the future with No. 2 overall pick Carson Wentz, whom Philadelphia hopes is its next franchise quarterback.

Tampa Bay

The Bucs just handed the keys to the franchise to Jameis Winston, which is certainly a dicey proposition, but he's impressed so far. The Rays have somehow continued to compete in the AL East over the, but their window could be closing after losing manager Joe Maddon last season and currently sitting dead last in the division. The Lightning made it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015 and seem poised to stay contenders for some time.

Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C.

These are tough times for Redskins fans with the finger constantly pointed at owner Daniel Snyder for issues both on the field and off. The Nationals, Wizards and Capitals all have reason for optimism but have just one championship between the three franchises, and that was way back in 1978 when the Wizards were the Bullets.

San Diego

The Padres had a disastrous 2015 and continue to spiral downward in 2016, and unfortunately they cleaned out their farm system in the past two offseasons only to see the team be just as awful as they were in previous years. Meanwhile, the Chargers have been rumored to relocate for some time now.

Charlotte/Raleigh

The Charlotte Hornets are making some progress from their lowest days but are still far away from contention. The Panthers, however, made it to the Super Bowl off the strength of an MVP season from Cam Newton, though lost their top cornerback in Josh Norman this offseason. The Hurricanes swim near the bottom of the NHL's Eastern Conference.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville

The Jags are Jacksonville's only major pro sports team, but the city would probably prefer not to claim them given how bad they've been since their inception. The good news is things are looking up with Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.
